How reaction time is measured
A practical explanation of the clock, valid inputs, ties and the difference between animation and the competitive result.
6 MIN READ · LIVE GAME DOCUMENTATIONHow High Noon Duels measures a valid quick-draw reaction and keeps visual choreography separate from competitive timing.
The clock starts on a valid fire prompt
Walking away, waiting and lifting both controls are preparation phases. They build attention but are not added to the final reaction figure. The competitive clock begins only when the game has accepted the lift and displays the side that must be fired.
The first valid press on the requested side stops that clock. A press on the opposite side is a fault rather than a very slow reaction. A release before the signal is also resolved as a false start, because measuring a guessed input would reward anticipation instead of response.
Why the bullet does not decide the time
The muzzle flash, tracer and fall are feedback after the decisive input. They make the duel readable and satisfying, but their duration is not part of the competitive measurement. A slower cosmetic effect therefore cannot turn a faster input into a loss.
The result panel waits for the shot choreography to complete so the winner remains standing and the loser falls only after impact. That pause is presentation, not extra latency assigned to either player. Every weapon uses the same input-resolution path even when its sprite or sound is different.
Comparisons, ties and device context
Local two-player measures both people against the same device clock, making the difference between their inputs directly comparable. Ghost competition compares the live validated reaction with a server-owned opponent record while drawing a fresh random side for the new encounter.
Browser, display and touch hardware can influence absolute measurements. Rankings are therefore presented as game records rather than laboratory tests of human reflex. Suspiciously impossible connected results may be rejected, and players should compare repeated performance on a stable setup instead of treating one number as a medical measurement.
